Course Description
The class will consist of approximately 20-25 minutes of presentation of the material including guided practice and a discussion of the new concept. Students will then have approximately 20-25 minutes of the remaining time to work on the lesson during class. I expect students to be busy and working during this time while I am available to help with questions. If students use their class time wisely and work during the available time homework should be kept to a minimum. There will be homework every day however, so it is up to the student to budget their available time during school.

Your Interactive Math Notebook is your personally created textbook that will be an ongoing process throughout the school year. You will take notes daily from the lesson as it is being presented. You will add foldables and the interactive pages that you create during class with Mrs. Bowen. You will be able to utilize the notes that you take in your Interactive Notebook to help you with tests, quizzes, and Study Island. If you miss notes, please go to the Smart Notebook Page that is linked to your class page here on Mrs. Bowen's website to catch up.
Interactive Notebooks will be graded one time each quarter and this grade will be weighted as a test so don't get behind! Your Interactive Notebook is an important part of your daily participation in class!

Study Island
I will check Study Island Blue Ribbons every two weeks according to the grade check schedule in the Student Handbook. Students are expected to get one Blue Ribbon per week in Mathematics and 8th Grade Science students are also expected to get one blue ribbon per week in Science. Students should utilize their available time after their homework is finished to work on study island in the classroom. Students can access Study Island from home or any Wi-Fi connection. The topics presented in Study Island correlate exactly to the tested material on the MAP and EOC tests and i feel this is the very best practice students can get in preparing for their year-end tests.
